The 2019 Rugby Survey is now live and will run until the end of the Rugby World Cup. This short survey is an opportunity for anyone with an interest in rugby to help shape the future of the sport and drive decision making in the IRFU. The 2019 survey builds on the 2018 iteration in a number of ways.
The survey is broken down across four key themes: Rugby Experience, Player Welfare, Club Culture and The Club Of The Future. Answers are also ranked for more focused feedback.
“Recent surveys were a critical data source for us in compiling the IRFU Strategic Plan for 2018 to 2023,” says Colin McEntee, IRFU Director of Rugby Development.
“They helped us to identify some of the challenges faced in rugby recruitment and retention at grass roots level. The 2019 survey will help us to identify the right solutions by drawing on the expertise within our community.”
“Furthermore, where clubs have found ways to overcome key challenges at a local level, we want to document those solutions and share them to help raise standards across the board.”
he evolution of the survey means that both first time respondents and previous respondents are equally welcome. It is run in conjunction with the English, Scottish and Welsh Unions to facilitate shared insights and cross-Union analysis.
All current and former players, coaches, referees, club officials, volunteers and supporters are invited to have their say. The language used has also changed so that age-grade respondents will find the survey more relevant.
Across areas such as coaching, the information gathered will be directly used to shape education strategy in the coming years. The Irish Rugby values of Respect, Integrity, Inclusivity, Fun and Excellence are also to be examined.
“We should be able to hold a mirror up to ourselves and find out just how visible these values are on the ground,” said McEntee. “For example, if touchline behaviour is an area worth looking at, we have a range of potential measures to combat the issue and the survey will help to drive that strategy.”
The survey will close on Saturday November 2nd.
